The egg planning process for my group was all over the place. When we were given the 15 minutes to plan we just threw ideas together and began getting feedback from each other. Then we just kept looking at the time and that just made us more anxious and at the same time excited to do this project. I believe my team went through all the steps. First we stated the objective and that was not breaking the egg. Second, we determined our resources because the professor told us what they were and decided how to use them. Then we developed many alternate plans for a cushion or barrier to protect the egg and decided which was best. However, we didn’t assign any roles for each other and then when we got the materials we were just all over the place. Finally, when we went up to test it the egg broke.
Overall, I believe that my group did well in the management process, but because we were nervous about the time running out it made us less organized. When we made the plan we were set and felt confident, but once we got the materials I think we rushed it. Also, we didn’t really stick to the plan as well as we hoped to. I think if we were more organized or if one of the members stepped up as team leader we could of done better in planning. Still, overall the performance as a team was good; we heard each other’s ideas and gave each other feedback and we were able to make a plan that we all felt was good enough to protect the egg. If we did this again than I’m sure we could make a product that works.
The United States is a place of many cultures, and because of this many people may experience cultural differences that they are not used to. For example difference in attitudes, the way we dress, our customs, and even how people express their emotions to others. I have probably seen or experienced many cultural differences; however I can’t recall any of them. I assume that I’m so used to seeing it; I don’t realize the differences anymore. So instead I asked my friend for an example of his experiences.
My friend Zhang has emigrated from Mainland China and has lived in the United States for about two and a half years now. The time that Zhang has lived here he has noticed a cultural difference in how we view education in America. He said that he notices that kids or teens don’t really take education serious and that the teachers don’t really challenge them like the teachers in China. Also, that there seems to be less order in the class rooms than he is used to in his former education. He notices students just leaving school during the day (cut class) and lots of students rarely study, treating school like it’s a joke or it doesn’t matter. While in China every student is pushed to learn and work hard.
Another cultural difference that Zhang noticed was personal space difference. He noticed in America people have like a barrier around them and once you accidentally enter this barrier they get uncomfortable for no reason. He gave an example of when he was on the train one day and he accidentally brushed someone’s shoulder. The person got uncomfortable and started yelling at him, even though he calmly apologized to her many times. Then when people are in a hurry they aren’t bothered about cramming into a train or bus. He claims that people in China aren’t afraid to interact on the train even if it’s from a minor encounter or at least they won’t yell at you for something that minor.
I am a Undergraduate student at CUNY Baruch College. I am currently majoring in Finance and Investments and Minoring in Information Technology and Social Responsibility. I have interest in both subjects of finance and Information Technology (IT). I believe having knowledge in both fields can help people prepare for the business world. I am currently writing this blog for my Management 3120 class. This is my second time blogging for a class and I am not that familiar with Blogger, I hope to make this blog as interesting as possible. Outside of College life I am interested in active sports like handball, football and biking. I also enjoy using my computer for research and gaming to pass time.
