Eggcellent Planning Project

The egg planning process for my group was all over the place. When we were given the 15 minutes to plan we just threw ideas together and began getting feedback from each other. Then we just kept looking at the time and that just made us more anxious and at the same time excited to do this project. I believe my team went through all the steps. First we stated the objective and that was not breaking the egg. Second, we determined our resources because the professor told us what they were and decided how to use them. Then we developed many alternate plans for a cushion or barrier to protect the egg and decided which was best. However, we didn’t assign any roles for each other and then when we got the materials we were just all over the place. Finally, when we went up to test it the egg broke.

Overall, I believe that my group did well in the management process, but because we were nervous about the time running out it made us less organized. When we made the plan we were set and felt confident, but once we got the materials I think we rushed it. Also, we didn’t really stick to the plan as well as we hoped to. I think if we were more organized or if one of the members stepped up as team leader we could of done better in planning. Still, overall the performance as a team was good; we heard each other’s ideas and gave each other feedback and we were able to make a plan that we all felt was good enough to protect the egg. If we did this again than I’m sure we could make a product that works.

  1. Time was also a major factor for our group. In the beginning, we all thought that we had enough time, but until the very end, things got turned upside down.

  2. It sounds like the time constraint is a problem for a lot of the groups. Many alternatives suggested were dismissed and people tend to get nervous when they know they are working under time constraint. Also I agree with you that having a designated team leader is very important otherwise things are going to get messy.

  3. Planning is definitely not easy, especially when time is not at your side. When you are rushing against time, team members tend to get nervous like you said and possbily rush to the point where you are not following the plan. This seemed to be a trend in alot of the groups for this activity as it is for me at times when I am rushing against the clock at work. However, good team analysis and it's also very important to note what could have been done better for next time as you did.

  4. The countdown was NERVE-WREAKING! My group felt the limit of time, especially when it came to building the protector that our hands were shaking. Overall, sounds like your group did good on making sure everyone participated in the planning and the implementing process. If only everyone wasn't so rushed!

  5. Our group did not take into consideration The amount of time we were given to actually build the structure. We realized we had an excess amount of time for the planning process and believed our plan was good enough that we did not need too much time to actually build. We were mistaken and therefore it led to us running out of time and failing in our task.

  6. OMG!!! Every chance we got to look at the time, we knew we had had very little time in planning which made all of us nervous and almost at that point everyone was jumping to give ideas for the design.

We had many alternative designs for our project and luckily we were the ones to get the scissors first which made us feel confident but as we started to cut one straw after the other, we realized that our design wasn't going to work out.

Eventually we did a combination of the 2 designs and just wanted to get the egg as secure as possible in the end.

  7. The whole time constraint was really an issue. When people are given a certain time limit, they get anxious and nervous and keep thinking about the time instead of how to successfully complete the task. I'm sure if you would have had the entire day to come up with a cushion for the egg, you would have been able to come up with something better. I know towards the end when time was running out, my group got a little chaotic as well and our plan was unsuccessful.
